Job summary

Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) in Bismarck, ND is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to shape municipal projects and evaluate go/no-go proposals. You will deepen client relationships, win new work, and mentor a team to deliver complex urban projects.

The role requires a Civil Engineering degree, ND PE license or ability to obtain within six months, and 8+ years of ND-relevant experience. Leadership, budgeting, and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural and Biological Systems Engineering, Bioproducts and Biosystem Engineering, or related Engineering field.
• Professional Engineer license in ND or ability to obtain within six months.
• 8+ years experience preferred, with recent experience in ND.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Experience with project management and budgeting.
• Capability of supervising, mentoring, and evaluating staff.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects and clients.
• Good driving record and valid driver’s license.
• Visa sponsorship is not available for this position; authorization to work in the United States permanently without sponsorship is required.

Responsibilities

• Assess project feasibility by analyzing technology, resource needs, or market demand.
• Prepare engineering documents, including design reports, cost estimates, project schedules, etc. in accordance with the latest governing codes.
• Effectively manage budgets, schedules, and timely completion of projects.
• Participate in pre-project presentations, interviews, client meetings, and preconstruction meetings.
• Lead and mentor other civil engineers assigned to projects.
