Job summary

The City of Boston seeks a Senior Assistant Corporation Counsel III to represent the City, its officials, and its departments in civil actions, arbitrations, administrative hearings, mediations, and negotiations. The Senior ACC III will advise City leaders on municipal law matters and draft ordinances.

Mentors ACC I and II, manages a caseload in state and federal courts, and handles matters including personal injury, contract disputes, and open meeting laws. Boston residency is required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree required. Licensed to practice in Massachusetts. Five to six years of experience as a lawyer, in a law firm or government agency.
• Supervisory experience preferred. Excellent writing and organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and good judgment.

Responsibilities

• Mentor ACC I and II in litigation, contract review, negotiation, and advisory work.
• Manage a caseload and represent the City in state and federal court, administrative proceedings, and other venues.
• Advise on policy matters, procurement, open meeting laws, public records laws, and student confidentiality laws.
• Perform legal research, draft opinions, and assist in drafting contracts, memoranda, ordinances, and other documents.
• Conduct specialized municipal-law work including workers’ compensation, tax foreclosures, public construction, and education matters.
