Role Overview
Help shape how advanced AI models reason through insurance claims, from coverage and investigation to evaluation, settlement, and resolution. In this role, you will develop realistic claim-handling scenarios, create high-quality insurance reasoning material, and assess AI responses against established claims standards for a leading AI research lab.
This opportunity welcomes carrier examiners, desk adjusters, field adjusters, third-party administrator (TPA) professionals, and independent adjusters with experience in property, auto, casualty, or specialty property and casualty (P&C) claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop realistic claims scenarios covering first notice of loss, coverage verification, investigation, documentation, reserving, damage evaluation, negotiation, settlement, subrogation, salvage, and closure.
- Produce claim action plans, coverage analyses, investigation requests, evaluation summaries, settlement recommendations, and communications to insureds.
- Write reference responses that meet the quality standards expected of an experienced claims professional.
- Evaluate AI-generated responses using structured rubrics that assess factual accuracy, policy application, claim-handling judgment, and procedural completeness.
- Identify premature conclusions, missing investigative steps, unsupported valuations, improper communications, and failures to distinguish covered damage from excluded or unrelated losses.
- Deliver written feedback that helps the research team improve model behavior.
- Take part in onboarding office hours and calibration sessions.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of professional experience handling, adjusting, or examining P&C claims.
- Experience independently handling claims in at least one area, such as property, auto physical damage, bodily injury, general liability, commercial casualty, catastrophe, or specialty claims.
- Understanding of the full claim lifecycle, including intake, investigation, evaluation, resolution, recovery, and closure.
- Ability to interpret policy language, apply it to claim facts, and recognize when escalation is necessary.
- Strong written analysis, balanced judgment, and close attention to detail.
- Ability to distinguish routine claim adjudication from complex coverage, litigation, regulatory, and actuarial work.
Preferred Qualifications
- An AIC, CPCU, SCLA, or comparable insurance designation.
- Experience handling claims across multiple lines of insurance or multiple states.
- Exposure to catastrophe claims, represented bodily injury, litigation, subrogation, special investigations unit (SIU) work, or large losses.
- Experience supervising independent adjusters, experts, vendors, or defense counsel.
- A current or previously held adjuster license.
