Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking an MS&T Senior Scientist to drive high-level bench chemistry for development and commercial manufacturing. The role includes managing cross-functional projects with QA, Regulatory and AS&T, plus external CDMOs and change control.

The candidate will conduct synthetic organic experiments, monitor reactions with diverse analytics, and contribute to scientific strategies while supporting regulatory documentation and internal reports.

Qualifications

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemistry with 8+ years of experience or advanced degrees with relevant experience.
• Experience in transfer of developed tech to CDMOs and working with suppliers on compound delivery.
• Excellent verbal and written communication for complex technical information.

Responsibilities

• Manages technical transfer and manufacturing collaborations with external CDMOs, including extensive documentation and change control management.
• Performs synthetic organic experiments efficiently, independently and fit-for-purpose for development stages.
• Performs reaction process monitoring using various analytical methods and works with analysts to develop methods.
• Generates hypotheses to pursue synthesis or manufacturing goals and sets new experimental direction as needed.
• Contributes to department discussions and initiatives; participates in cross-functional teams.
• Demonstrates advanced understanding of related scientific disciplines; communicates and disseminates ideas internally and externally.
• Multitasks to manage multiple activities/projects; provides technical recommendations to colleagues and management.
• Provides on-the-job training and ensures regulatory and SOP compliance; develops internal reports and updates for regulatory documents.
• Ability to travel internationally up to two weeks at a time to support validation and campaigns.
