Job summary

General Motors is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Secondary Driving System within Embodied AI. You will build production-grade C++ software spanning perception, planning, and controls, enabling fail‑operational driving features with robust validation.

You will collaborate with experts in perception, state estimation, and safety to ship reliable SDS capabilities, contribute to HIL setups, and mentor peers while advancing autonomous driving technology.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or real-time/control systems.
• Proficiency in modern C++ (C++14/17+), with experience in large multi-contributor codebases; Python for tooling & data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop production-grade C++ software across the SDS stack, integrating ML-based perception with planners and controllers.
• Design and implement planning and control algorithms for the Secondary Driving System (SDS).
• Collaborate with perception, mapping, localization, and autonomy management teams to define interfaces and contracts.
• Own end-to-end features: requirements, design reviews, implementation, testing, on-road validation, and iteration.
• Apply software engineering best practices: clean interfaces, code reviews, automated testing, CI, performance profiling, observability.
• Analyze and debug complex integration issues using logs and telemetry to root-cause problems at perception–planning–controls intersections.
• Partner with Safety and Systems Engineering to meet functional safety, redundancy, and MRM requirements.
• Mentor engineers through design discussions and code reviews to raise robustness and execution speed.
