Job summary

Vox Media seeks a Motion Design Lead in New York to guide a team of designers and freelancers, shaping motion concepts across brands including New York Magazine and Vox. You will act as a player/coach, delivering story-driven content with leadership over time‑based visuals.

You will collaborate with art directors, editors and producers, driving high-quality output, exploring new techniques, and upholding Vox Media’s visual voice across campaigns.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of motion design experience with leadership guiding teams or freelancers.
• Fluent with After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Figma for high‑end branded content.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor motion designers, including freelancers, across multiple campaigns.
• Collaborate with art directors, creative directors, writers, and editors to shape motion concepts.
• Design and produce motion for long- and short-form content, social assets, and VFX/3D elements.
• Establish best practices, workflows, and brand guidelines for Vox Media motion work.
• Provide clear, actionable feedback and maintain creative integrity at all project stages.
