Job summary

The Scientific Laboratory Division (SLD) of the New Mexico Department of Health seeks a Senior Microbiologist to advance molecular diagnostics for infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.

The role leads analysts, develops and validates next generation sequencing assays, writes validation reports and SOPs, and ensures CLIA/CAP compliance while supporting public health surveillance and outbreak response.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences and one year of laboratory experience; five years total may substitute for the education/experience requirement.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and validates NGS-based assays for infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance; writes validation proposals, reports and SOPs.
• Serves as lead analyst by guiding, directing, and reviewing the work of other analysts and providing recommendations on experimental design.
• Prepares for and responds to public health emergencies by providing rapid diagnostic testing and ensuring compliance with CLIA and CAP regulations.
