Job summary

The Town of Matthews is seeking a dedicated transportation planner to lead planning projects, coordinate with NCDOT/CRTPO, and secure funding for infrastructure. You will manage studies, environmental reviews, and LAP projects, while communicating results to elected officials and the public.

We value experience in municipal transportation, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to translate complex data into actionable plans and reports.

Qualifications

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with major course work in engineering, planning or a related field.
• At least five years of experience in municipal transportation; experience coordinating with NCDOT and CRTPO is a plus.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and build relationships with staff, officials and the public.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and coordinate activities related to the Town’s transportation needs.
• Coordinate with local, regional, and state transportation partners to advance priorities and funding.
• Manage transportation planning projects from concept through implementation.
• Administer LAP projects and ensure compliance with federal, state, and regional requirements.
• Identify, pursue, and manage grant opportunities and transportation funding strategies.
• Conduct transportation network analysis and planning for multimodal needs.
• Lead public outreach, facilitate meetings, and maintain project communications.
• Develop reports, memoranda, and presentations to support decision-making.
