Job summary

The Town of Matthews seeks an experienced engineer to serve as Town Engineer and direct the Public Works/Engineering Department. This role leads engineering operations, capital project delivery, development engineering, and departmental leadership to ensure quality infrastructure for the community.

The incumbent will collaborate with town leadership, manage consultants, oversee design standards, budgets, and grant opportunities, and represent the department in executive discussions about

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college.
• Eight or more years of progressive engineering experience, including five years in supervisory/management roles.
• North Carolina PE licensure or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Directs all engineering services and the department to provide timely, thorough responses to construction within the Town.
• Oversees plan review, site inspection, project design, and construction-industry relations to assure quality projects.
• Supervises department staff; provides coaching, development, and performance evaluations.
