Job summary

The Atlantic in Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Engineer to build and scale mobile applications, primarily using React Native, as part of a cross-functional team supporting Pulitzer Prize–winning journalism.

You will collaborate with product and design, participate in code reviews and on-call rotations, and drive technical decisions while mentoring teammates. This role is based in Washington, D.C. and requires strong cloud, container, and CI/CD experience.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of full-stack software development experience, including 3+ years of React Native
• Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript and at least one backend language (Python preferred)
• Experience shipping and maintaining mobile applications on Android
• Experience deploying and maintaining production systems in cloud (AWS or GCP), containerization, and CI/CD pipelines

Responsibilities

• Write, test, debug, document, and deploy code across the full stack with a focus on mobile development in React Native
• Collaborate with Product and Design to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Participate in code reviews, stand-ups, and sprint planning
• Contribute to on-call rotation to monitor and resolve production incidents
• Research and recommend technical solutions with tradeoff analysis
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering best practices
• Be prepared for night/evening/weekend work as needed
