Job summary

Reddit is seeking an experienced ML performance engineer to optimize production ML workloads and accelerate model launches. You will profile, diagnose, and implement performance improvements across inference, runtimes, memory, and hardware, partnering with model engineers and platform teams.

The role emphasizes building reusable performance tools, benchmarking capabilities, and mentoring engineers, while balancing performance with model quality and reliability in a remote-friendly, US/Canada

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and implement performance improvements in production ML workloads.
• Deep expertise in at least one ML perf area (inference, runtimes, GPU, memory, etc.).
• Strong profiling and benchmarking skills with reliable baselines and measurable improvements.
• Solid software engineering fundamentals in Python and systems programming.
• Familiarity with production ML frameworks and perf trade-offs across model execution, runtime, memory, and hardware.
• Ability to balance performance with model quality, reliability and maintainability.
• Strong communication to explain tradeoffs to engineers and partner teams.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end performance optimization initiatives for high-impact production ML workloads.
• Profile and diagnose ML performance bottlenecks across model execution, runtimes, memory, and infrastructure.
• Design and implement performance improvements involving inference execution, runtimes, batching, and memory management.
• Improve ML training and serving efficiency and scalability while maintaining model quality.
• Support faster model launches through benchmarking, load testing, and regression detection.
• Collaborate with model engineers and platform teams to identify high-leverage opportunities.
• Build reusable performance capabilities, benchmarks, tooling, and guidance.
• Mentor engineers through hands-on collaboration and code reviews.
