Job summary

Waymo is seeking a software engineer to own the ML-powered pickup/dropoff features roadmap and drive end-to-end delivery across vehicles, cloud, and rider apps. You will collaborate with PM, UX, data science, and other commercialization teams to ship user-facing features.

The role requires 5+ years in software engineering, expertise in backend distributed systems, and experience deploying ML models into production. A BS in CS or equivalent is required; C++ experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own and drive the roadmap for ML-powered pickup and dropoff features from definition to launch
• Train, evaluate, and deploy ML models for occupancy detection and rider-vehicle interactions
• Design fallback systems between onboard and offboard models based on latency and connectivity
• Build distributed systems spanning vehicles, cloud, and rider apps for intermittent connectivity
• Work across data pipelines, model serving, backend services, and client integration end-to-end
• Define success metrics and use offline evaluation, simulation, and live experiments to measure impact
