Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mine Ventilation Engineer for a fully remote role. The candidate will design and optimize underground mine ventilation systems, model airflow with CFD tools, and guide site teams worldwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Master's degree with specialization in ventilation preferred.
• Minimum 7 years direct mine ventilation engineering experience in underground mining.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation modelling software such as Ventsim DESIGN, Minescape Ventilation or similar CFD tools.
• Strong thermodynamics, psychrometrics and air quality management knowledge in mining.
• Experience with dust suppression and gas monitoring systems.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills; capable of remote collaboration and multi-project management.
• Familiarity with international mine ventilation standards and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and optimize mine ventilation systems, including fan selection, ducting, and airflow distribution strategies.
• Develop and implement strategies for controlling airborne contaminants such as dust, gases (e.g., radon, methane), and fumes.
• Perform thermal environment assessments and develop solutions for heat management in underground mines.
• Utilize advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software for ventilation network modeling and simulation (e.g., Ventsim, Minescape Ventilation).
• Conduct remote site assessments using provided data, drone imagery, and consultations with site personnel.
• Develop and maintain ventilation databases, standards, and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations related to mine ventilation.
• Provide expert technical support and training to site engineers and operational teams via virtual platforms.
• Collaborate with mine planning and engineering departments to integrate ventilation requirements into mine design and operations.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and recommendations for ventilation upgrades and modifications.
• Investigate ventilation-related incidents and recommend preventative measures.
• Stay current with advancements in mine ventilation technology and methodologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• A Master's degree with a specialization in ventilation is preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of direct experience in mine ventilation engineering, specifically within underground mining operations.
• Proficiency in mine ventilation modeling software such as Ventsim DESIGN, Minescape Ventilation, or similar CFD tools.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and air quality management principles in mining.
• Experience with dust suppression techniques and gas monitoring systems.
