Job summary

Mine Safety and Health Administration seeks a Supervisory General Engineer to lead engineers, scientists, and specialists in nationwide mine safety programs. You will guide technical investigations, oversee laboratories, and advise top officials on complex health and safety matters.

The role requires an ABET-accredited engineering degree or equivalent combination with professional registration, U.S. citizenship, and the ability to obtain security clearances.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree required.
• Combination of education and experience acceptable with professional registration or PE licensure.
• U.S. citizenship required; candidate must obtain necessary security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and reviews the work of subordinate staff, comprised of engineers, scientists and technical specialists.
• Oversees the operation and maintenance of extensive laboratory facilities for precise chemical analysis of samples collected in mines.
• Directs professional and highly technical programs in engineering and scientific aspects of mine safety and health.
• Advises senior agency officials on technical issues related to enforcement activities and mining health and safety.
• Serves on high-level committees and participates in policy definition and program planning.
• Acts as principal spokesperson for the center in communications with MSHA, other federal agencies, state officials, and industry representatives.
