Job summary

Compass Minerals seeks a Mine Hoist & Shaft Engineer for the Cote Blanche Mine in Louisiana. You will lead the lifecycle management of hoisting and shaft systems, driving design, maintenance, safety compliance, and project leadership to minimize downtime.

The role requires a strong background in hoisting, shafts, and underground operations, with at least 10 years in mining and 5 years in relevant hoist/shaft experience. You will mentor staff and promote a safety-first culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 10 years of experience in mining with 5 years in mine hoist/shaft construction, maintenance, or engineering.
• Strong knowledge of hoisting systems and shafts, headframes, and industry standards.
• Understanding of underground operations around mine shafts: shaft stations, material flow, and electrical services.
• Ability to harmonize MSHA regulatory requirements with Compass Minerals policies.
• Mentoring ability and interest in developing junior staff.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evaluation of mine hoisting systems, including headframes, skips, cages, ropes, braking systems and controls.
• Develop and manage hoist and shaft integrity programs to monitor equipment health and minimize downtime.
• Provide expert guidance on inspection, maintenance, and project tasks.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards during inspections.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate hazards.
• Analyze hoisting metrics and KPIs to improve utilization.
• Manage budgets and schedules for hoist and shaft inspections and construction.
• Oversee lifecycle management of Cote Blanche hoisting and shaft systems.
• Develop and lead training sessions on hoisting and shaft systems.
• Foster a safety-conscious culture and mentor staff across levels.
