Job summary

Compass Minerals is seeking a Mine Hoist & Shaft Engineer at the Cote Blanche Mine in Louisiana to lead the lifecycle management of hoisting and shaft systems, including inspections, maintenance strategies, operational optimization, and safety compliance.

The ideal candidate will serve as the site SME for hoisting and shaft systems, promote a strong safety-first culture, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams on projects and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 10 years of mining experience with 5 years in mine hoist/shaft construction, maintenance, or engineering.
• Strong working knowledge of hoisting systems, shafts and headframes.
• Understanding underground operations around mine shafts, including personnel and material flow.
• Ability to harmonize MSHA regulations with Compass Minerals policies.
• Mentoring ability and interest in developing junior staff.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and specification of mine hoisting systems and components.
• Develop and oversee hoist and shaft integrity programs to minimize downtime.
• Provide expert technical guidance on inspections, maintenance, and projects.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and accompany inspectors during inspections.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation controls.
• Analyze hoisting metrics to improve equipment utilization.
• Manage budgets and schedules for inspections and construction.
• Oversee life cycle of Cote Blanche hoisting and shaft systems.
• Develop and lead training sessions on hoisting topics.
• Mentor hoist and shaft personnel and assess competency.
• Perform other related duties as required.
