Job summary

P&C Recruiting | H.R. seeks a Senior Metallurgist with 10+ years in heap leaching and Merrill‑Crowe processing.

You will develop and maintain geo‑metallurgical models, coordinate with mine planning, geology, and operations, and drive test programs to optimize recoveries while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. You will lead laboratory and plant support activities, prepare technical reports, and contribute to production planning and monthly management reviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Metallurgical Engineering. Advanced degree preferred, but equivalent leadership experience may be considered.
  • 5–10 years of experience in heap leaching and gold recovery circuits (Merrill‑Crowe).
  • Certified in the use and handling of cyanide.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with assay lab operations, facilities, equipment and procedures such as fire assay, AA and ICP.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain company safety and environmental standards.
  • Develop and maintain the site’s geo-metallurgical model ensuring integration of metallurgical, geological and operations data.
  • Execute test programs to evaluate leach‑pad performance against model predictions.
  • Collaborate with mine planning and geology to develop plans that improve metallurgical recovery and minimize material handling issues.
  • Perform tests to improve crusher throughput and ensure leach material has suitable physical characteristics.
  • Update metallurgical model based on test results and operational data.
  • Work with geology and operations to enhance the geo‑metallurgical model and propose improvements.
  • Characterize material properties and develop blending strategies with ore control and site geology teams.
  • Prepare technical reports interpreting laboratory data with recommendations and conclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with approvals, permits and regulatory requirements for laboratory, leach pad, Merrill‑Crowe plant and hazardous substances management.
  • Promote safe operations with regular safety training and meetings to achieve zero incidents.
  • Provide technical support to crushing plant operations and stay updated on technical advancements.
  • Assist in setting production targets and contribute to monthly management reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

As the Senior Metallurgist you report to the Technical Services Manager.

What You Do
  • Implement and maintain company safety and environmental standards.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve the site’s geo‑metallurgical model, ensuring accurate integration of metallurgical, geological, and operations data.
  • Execute test work programs and protocols to evaluate leach‑pad performance against model predictions.
  • Works closely with mine planning and geology to develop mine plans that enhance metallurgical recovery and minimize material handling issues
  • Performs tests as needed to improve crusher throughput and ensure leach material has the physical characteristics for optimum leaching
  • Recommend updates or adjustments to the metallurgical model based on test work results and operational data
  • Collaborate with geology and operations to maintain and enhance the geo metallurgical model. Propose improvements as needed.
  • Work closely with ore control and site geology teams to characterize material properties and develop effective blending strategies.
  • Prepare technical reports, as needed, interpreting laboratory data, with recommendations and conclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with approvals, permits, and regulatory requirements for laboratory, leach pad, Merrill‑Crowe plant, refinery operations, and hazardous substances management.
  • Ensure safe operations with regular safety training and meetings to achieve zero incidents.
  • Provide technical support to the crushing plant operations.
  • Keep updated on technical advancements and introduce new procedures as applicable.
  • Assist in setting production targets and process department budgeting.
  • Contribute to monthly management reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy or Metallurgical Engineering.
  • An advanced degree is preferred; however, equivalent experience with proven technical leadership may be considered.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in heap leaching and gold recovery circuits (particularly Merrill‑Crowe circuits).
  • Certified in the use and handling of cyanide
  • Strong computer skills are essential.
  • Experience and familiarity with assay lab operations, facilities, equipment, and procedures, including fire assay, AA, and ICP, bottle roll and column tests.
  • Expertise in metallurgical procedures and quality control practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent interpersonal and problem‑solving abilities.
