Job summary

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is seeking a Senior MEP Estimator to lead estimating, design/decision assisting, and trade partner procurement for MEP packages on vertical projects.

The role involves preparing bids, take-offs, and detailed proposals, with relocation support if needed. The candidate should have a strong MEP preconstruction background, experience with multiple estimating tools, and excellent communication to coordinate with design teams and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management with 5+ years estimating/preconstruction experience.
• Experience in Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) and/or Electrical preconstruction with MEP or GC; experience across all MEP trades preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of construction principles and practices required.
• Proven experience estimating mechanical, plumbing, electrical and low-voltage systems.
• Experience with MS Excel, On-Screen Take-Off, Bluebeam Studio, Accubid, Revizto, WinEst.
• Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors or self-perform work.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to influence diverse audiences.
• Ability to perform mechanical quantity take-offs from OPRs/BODs/SLDs and floor plans.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, maintain status of and review bid documents; submit bids and estimates timely.
• Prepare complete quantity take-offs to build estimates.

• Prepare a thorough, detailed estimate and a comprehensive proposal with bid forms.
• Manage subcontractor and vendor solicitation during preconstruction.
• Participate in peer bid review and contract review for compliance.
• Follow-up bids weekly and update status in estimating meetings.
• Assist project manager with questions about the estimate.
• Cultivate client relationships and work with Business Development on opportunities.
• Participate in design meetings and provide Design-Assist input.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior MEP Estimator has the primary responsibility of estimating, design/decision assisting, and trade partner procurement for vertical projects for MEP trade packages.

This position is located in a geographic area where McCarthy has an office. A candidate who does not live in an area with a McCarthy office will need to relocate. If relocation is required, McCarthy offers a generous relocation package.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare, maintain status of and review bid documents, submitting bids and estimates in a timely manner
• Prepare complete, accurate quantity take-offs to build estimates
• Assist with execution plans and win strategies
• Prepare a thorough, detailed and well-annotated estimate
• Prepare a thorough, comprehensive proposal, including bid forms and supporting documentation
• Subcontractor & Vendor solicitation and management during preconstruction process
• Participate in peer bid review and contract review for compliance with bid proposal
• Follow-up with prior bid projects on a weekly basis and update status at weekly estimating meeting
• Assist project manager if questions arise throughout the project about the estimate
• Cultivate existing client relationships and work with Business Development inbuilding new relationships and targeting opportunities
• Participate in design meetings, OAC meetings and provide Design-Assist or Design Build input.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management, and/or minimum 5 years experience with estimating, design management and/or field management.
• Experience in a Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) and/or Electrical Preconstruction capacity with a MEP Contractor or General Contractor. Preference is experience across all MEP trades.
• In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices required
• Proven experience estimating mechanical (including plumbing/process) systems and complex electrical and low voltage systems.
• Experience working with MS Excel, On-Screen Take-Off, Bluebeam Studio, Accubid, Revizto, WinEst preferred
• Experience dealing with subcontracts, subcontractors and/or self-perform work
• Self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to build trust and influence others
• Demonstrate behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values while maintaining a "value added" approach to preconstruction
• Strong communication skills with ability to communicatewith varied audiences
• Ability to perform mechanical quantity take-off based on OPRs, BODs, SLDs, architectural floor plans (sometimes without mechanical drawings)
