Job summary

Suffolk Construction in Boston is seeking a Senior MEP Estimator to manage the most complex electrical estimates, from pre-construction through GMP and lump-sum bids. The role demands rigorous cost analysis, coordination with design teams, and leadership in estimating for large-scale projects.

You will develop detailed takeoffs, apply multiple pricing methods, and ensure accuracy across all estimate phases while staying current with industry practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the estimate lifecycle for electrical projects from concept to lump-sum bids.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs by reviewing drawings, specifications, models, narratives, equipment data, and owner standards; quantify labor, material, equipment, supplier, subcontractor, testing, and indirect requirements.
  • Develop estimates using multiple pricing methods including detailed takeoffs, unit rates, standard assemblies, historical benchmarks, supplier quotations, and factored models appropriate to the level of design.
  • Establish the estimate basis with assumptions, clarifications, alternates, allowances, contingencies, escalation, location factors, schedule premiums, logistics impacts, and procurement considerations.
  • Reconcile progressive estimates by comparing estimate versions, explaining design and market variances, reviewing estimated-versus-actual performance, and recommending updates to cost models.
  • Communicate the estimate through narratives, executive summaries, system comparisons, and owner/designer presentations; respond to questions with clear supporting data.
