The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-facing role whose main objectives are to be a trusted scientific partner to external experts and decision-makers, engaging in mutual scientific exchanges to accelerate data dissemination, and to support evidence generation and medical strategy aligned with therapeutic area plans.
Engages external stakeholders on medical and scientific information exchange for solid tumor products during one-on-one and group settings, demonstrating strong scientific and clinical knowledge.
Builds robust, long-term peer relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and other stakeholder partners.
Engages with stakeholders on medical, clinical, epidemiologic, and scientific topics to advance understanding of disease by sharing information and answering questions based on approved materials within regulatory guidelines.
Assesses healthcare policies and guidelines at local, state, regional, federal, or national levels as they relate to clinical practice.
Maps and prioritizes stakeholders using defined systems to build value-based partnerships addressing HCPs’ therapeutic goals.
Plans territory and stakeholder engagement strategies using the Scientific Engagement Model, aligned with the field medical activity plan and medical function priorities.
Represents Sanofi at scientific congresses and adheres to governance for presence at events.
Organizes educational meetings or local scientific advisory boards when requested.
Supports speakers training to ensure continued scientific support in the field.
Responds to unsolicited requests for medical information related to supported products and disease areas.
Recognizes and collects feedback from multiple data sources and stakeholders.
Records and reports insights using approved mechanisms and tools.
Evaluates information from published studies and stakeholder interactions to develop insights that inform Sanofi’s scientific messages, plans, strategy, systems, and product development.
Maintains awareness of emerging evidence to inform discussions with key stakeholders.
Disseminates relevant scientific and medical information and external insights to internal stakeholders when requested.
Collaborates with Commercial Operations, Regulatory, and other functions to facilitate reviews, medical and safety evaluation, product positioning, lifecycle planning, and compliance needs.
Contributes to the creation of material for internal and external stakeholders in line with Sanofi policies and applicable regulations.
Monitors disease epidemiology and provides support for studies including protocol development when needed (long-term surveillance, compliance, pharmacovigilance, and effectiveness studies).
Identifies data collection opportunities during stakeholder interactions and reports these through approved processes.
Maintains awareness of clinical trial activity within the territory and suggests sites as requested.
Responds to unsolicited inquiries regarding investigator-sponsored studies (ISS) and supports ISS submissions through appropriate internal processes.
Operate independently in a complex regulatory environment, in person and via digital channels, from a remote/aligned setting.
Possible travel up to 50% nationally and internationally.
Manage KOLs with diverse and controversial opinions while aligning with corporate policy decisions.
Ensure regulatory boundaries regarding non-promotional activities are respected with commercial partners.
Manage a base of up to 120 stakeholders and maintain a stakeholder engagement database.
Manage a base of up to 100 provider settings as requested.
Plan day-to-day interactions with stakeholders in line with Medical Affairs strategy and establish interaction frequency to meet objectives.
Be accountable for US KOLs with reporting to Medical Affairs and other relevant functions.
Execute a KOL territory strategy addressing diverse stakeholder needs and align with company objectives.
Develop territory engagement plans that support the medical strategy and plan execution.
Use approved scientific data during KOL interactions to advance understanding of the therapeutic area.
Provide support for pipeline products per Sanofi SOP guidance.
Advanced degree in a technical, scientific or medical field (for example: MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in relevant Medical Affairs, Medical Science Liaison, or Therapeutic Area capacity.
Relevant scientific and/or clinical experience in academic cancer biology and/or solid tumors clinical knowledge.
Clear understanding of medical practice, clinical decision making, and healthcare systems related to patient care.
Ability to interpret key scientific data and translate to educational and research needs.
Understanding and knowledge of local regulations and codes of practice for the pharmaceutical industry, particularly non-promotional activities for this role.
Demonstrated ability to address educational and research needs through delivery of evidence-based data.
Understanding of study design and execution.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple responsibilities and projects.
Leadership abilities and the capacity to handle challenges within scope of authority.
Active listening and confident, diplomatic communication and presentation skills.
Previous pharmaceutical industry experience.
Demonstrated strategic impact.
Ability to navigate in ambiguous situations.
Existing KOL relationships within GI or Neuroendocrine Tumors.
