Job summary

Capstan Medical is hiring a Senior R&D Test Engineer to own testing for the hardware of a novel robotic platform. This hybrid role requires about four days per week at our Santa Cruz, CA location.

You will develop test plans, verify hardware against requirements, and coordinate with external labs for IEC 60601-1 testing. You will also write test protocols and reports for FDA submissions, design fixtures, and collaborate with manufacturing to qualify hardware in production.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of relevant experience in a regulated environment with formal verification testing.
• Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) for parts, assemblies and drawings for test fixtures; GD&T as appropriate.
• Hands-on prototyping capabilities and familiarity with sensing equipment (e.g. Chatillon, Instron).
• Strong written communication skills for FDA-style regulatory documentation.
• Comfortable turning ambiguity into tangible outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Develop high level verification and validation test plans for robot hardware systems.
• Translate hardware requirements into test methods, cases, and acceptance criteria.
• Lead execution of test protocols for design verification testing, including IEC 60601-1 mechanical testing.
• Write protocols and reports to support FDA submissions and regulator reviews.
• Design test fixtures for verification testing and improve existing methods.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to qualify robot hardware in production.
• Document work through design reviews and release appropriate documents.
