Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina laboratory staff member is responsible for performing assigned tests, recognizing abnormal results, and resolving discrepancies in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or a related field, with at least three years of clinical experience and certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP BOC or equivalent). Internal candidates follow Path and ICCE Career Ladder rules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or relevant medical/scientific discipline required.
• At least three years of clinical laboratory experience required.
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent.
• Career Ladder requirements may apply for internal/external candidates.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing assigned to the department.
• Recognize unusual test results and resolve discrepancies.
• Establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures including troubleshooting instruments.
• Maintain knowledge of SOPs and draft/revise SOPs, training documents, and verification plans.
• Maintain excellent communication with the Department and Laboratory Services personnel.

Education

Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or relevant medical/scientific discipline

Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology

ASCP BOC Medical Laboratory Scientist certification (or equivalent)
