Job summary

Texas Oncology in Dallas is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician Sr. to join the team. This role supports the Dallas location and performs specimen analysis, QC, phlebotomy, and routine/special testing in a busy clinical lab.

The candidate will follow QA policies, maintain equipment, and ensure proper documentation, with opportunities for proficiency testing and professional growth within a leading community oncology provider.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in medical technology or laboratory science or related science field.
• Current state license if required.
• AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred but not required.
• Level 2 requires three years of experience.
• Level Sr requires five years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists with performing phlebotomy and collecting appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.
• Assists with special procedures as needed (e.g. bone marrows in the room).
• Follows the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.
• Performs specimen analysis of all Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens.
• Maintains and operates all laboratory equipment and performs instrument maintenance.
• Adheres to QC policies and documents QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
• Participates in proficiency testing and reports results annually.
• Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs WBC differential.
• Performs microscopic examination of urinary sediment.
• Records results and processes specimens for send-out testing.
• Identifies problems and documents corrective actions when test systems deviate.
• Maintains documentation per QA program and ensures inventory of supplies.
• Charts patient results in a timely manner; handles blood product labeling and transfusion procedures.
• Complies with OSHA and regulatory standards; disposes of hazardous materials.
• Maintains a clean working environment and confidentiality of patient data.
