Job summary

UnitedHealthcare is seeking a Senior Medical Director, Clinical AI Innovation and Performance to lead clinical annotation, model training, and evidence-based UM criteria. You will guide InterQual-based interpretations and ensure policies translate into scalable clinical decision support across the enterprise.

Role requires MD/DO with active licensure, ABMS/AOBMS board certification, and broad UM leadership experience. Remote work within the U.S. is supported with enterprise-wide collaboration.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with active/unrestricted U.S. medical licensure.
• Board certification in an ABMS/AOBMS clinical specialty.
• Significant experience in utilization management.
• Experience with UM physicians and nursing teams at scale.
• Proven ability to lead through influence across clinical, operational, and technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead clinical annotation and analysis supporting LLM-based UM decision support.
• Oversee the clinical review process ensuring accurate interpretation of UM criteria by AI.
• Collaborate with Medical Policy and evidence teams to translate policy into UM-ready criteria.
• Provide clinical governance of AI lifecycle activities including training, validation, and deployment.
