GENERAL OVERVIEW:

As a member of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant assists in coordinating patient examination, treatment, and healthcare planning under the provider's supervision. The role also involves supporting office functions to ensure smooth patient care and operations, adhering to protocols, policies, and workflows.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Prepare and room patients, obtain vital signs, document patient information, history, and medication screening. Prepare exam rooms and complete wellness screenings. May serve as a scribe with training.
  2. Act as an EHR superuser, documenting all interactions accurately, updating medication and problem lists, and assisting with population health management.
  3. Assist in patient care coordination, support examinations and procedures, and perform in-house testing following protocols. Assist with prescription needs.
  4. Provide clinical leadership as a department resource for questions and guidance.
  5. Review pre-visit documentation and patient charts to ensure readiness for provider appointments.
  6. Follow up with patients post-visit via preferred communication methods, notify test results as directed.
  7. Maintain inventory of supplies, ensure proper sterilization, perform lab controls, and administer medications per policies.
  8. Serve as a peer mentor, orient new staff, and provide feedback and evaluations. Mentor students and externs.
  9. Perform clerical duties and other assigned tasks.
  10. Depending on location, serve as safety officer, maintain safety logs, and ensure quality assurance for POCT. May perform additional procedures like wound care or splinting.
  11. Travel between office locations may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school, or related experience/training, or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years as a Medical Assistant.
  • Complete training/testing within 30 days of hire; obtain certification within 120 days.
  • Maintain certification per CMS Meaningful Use standards.
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association).
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 background clearances.

Preferred:

  • Experience with practice management and EHR software.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
