Senior Medical Assistant - Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic

Department:

Job Description:

The Certified Medical Assistant II works alongside Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide direct patient care according to state and federal guidelines. This position plays an important role in the ambulatory setting by performing clinical and administrative duties and helping patients feel at ease while understanding provider instructions.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Provides direct patient care by taking vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor
  2. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires
  3. Contributes to the assessment/re-assessment of patients
  4. Monitors and documents patient status
  5. Manages large call volume while maintaining excellent telephone etiquette
  6. Organizes workflow to meet patient needs in a timely manner
  7. May retrieve and transport medications, instruments, and supplies
  8. Works with moderate exposure to hazardous risks, including infections, blood, body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals; follows standard precautions
  9. Responsible for stocking exam rooms, taking inventory, and ordering supplies
  10. Coordinates scheduling with other healthcare professionals and facilities
  11. Assists with procedures, maintaining sterile fields and proper specimen labeling
  12. Gathers and documents information about patient condition, including lab values, pain levels, education needs, nutritional status, and potential complications
  13. Performs cleaning, sterilization, and high-level disinfection of scopes, probes, instruments, and equipment per manufacturer instructions
  14. Participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating patient care plans, including medication administration (excluding narcotics) as directed by a physician or physician assistant
  15. Reinforces patient education on medications, post-surgical care, diets, and treatment plan changes
  16. Transmits prescription refills as directed
  17. Arranges hospital admissions and patient care services
  18. May precept new medical assistants
  19. Participates in compliance audits, chart checks, and safety event reporting
  20. De-escalates patient concerns effectively
Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred.

Experience: 3-5 years in patient care as a Medical Assistant or similar role required.

License/Certification/Registration: Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. Additionally, one of the following certifications is required:

  • Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Registered Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Personnel
  • Registered Medical Assistant - American Allied Health
  • Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National Health Career Association
  • National Certified Medical Assistant - NCCT
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant - National Association for Health Professionals
