Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Medical Assistant to support outpatient care under limited supervision. You will take vital signs, administer injections, collect specimens, perform point-of-care testing, sterilize equipment and maintain examination rooms, while assisting with basic administrative duties and patient record documentation in the EMR.

A high school diploma is required with five years of directly related MA experience. EPIC knowledge is preferred.

Qualifications

• Five years of directly-related experience as a Medical Assistant.
• Communicates effectively, written and verbal.
• Knowledge of EPIC software; may be required to be EPIC super user.

Responsibilities

• Intakes patients by obtaining vital signs and weight.
• Obtains history, chief complaint, medications, allergies and documents appropriately in the EMR.
• Reports all pertinent findings to Physicians.
• Manages patient appointments according to the Physician's schedules and protocols.
• Answers messages from patients by clinic policy.
• Handles all medication refills or requests via clinic policy.
• Prepares charts for next scheduled clinic and provides physician with test results and records.
• Communicates all necessary patient information to the physician in a timely manner.
• Handles and answers external and internal calls; assists in department call center.
