Job summary

The Texas Water Development Board is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented communications professional to tell the stories of Texas’ water resources. This senior-level role coordinates research, writes and edits materials, and serves as a primary liaison with media.

You will advise senior management, develop media plans, train staff, manage newsletters and website content, and ensure timely, accurate information reaches internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, or related field.
• Seven years of relevant work experience in media relations.
• Experience writing press releases, articles, and other materials.
• Writing samples required upon applying for this position.
• Education and experience may be substituted for each other on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary agency liaison with media and coordinate media interviews.
• Research story ideas, angles, and relevant media to pitch.
• Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and emails.
• Develop talking points and media interview materials.
• Advise senior management on news issues.
• Coordinate and conduct staff media training.
• Develop and execute media plans for meetings, conferences, and agency initiatives.
• Coordinate and execute press conferences.
• Build and maintain relationships with media.
• Manage agency media lists.
• Write and edit other agency materials, including articles for the Texas Water Newsroom.
• Develop, coordinate, and distribute internal and external newsletters and manage stakeholder distribution.
• Develop, post, and manage website content.
