FAR.AI, a non-profit AI safety research institute, is hiring a Senior Media Strategist to own our earned media coverage across press, podcasts and newsletters. You will decide which findings are news and position them, building relationships with reporters who cover AI and AI policy.
You will prepare researchers to be effective spokespeople, manage media requests, and guide framing for frontier-model safety issues.
FAR.AI is a non-profit AI research institute working to ensure advanced AI is safe and beneficial for everyone. Our mission is to facilitate breakthrough AI safety research, advance global understanding of AI risks and solutions, and foster a coordinated global response. Since our founding in July 2022, we've grown to 50+ staff, published 40+ academic papers, and convened leading AI safety events. Our work is recognized globally, with publications at premier venues such as NeurIPS, ICML including a Best Paper Honorable Mention in 2026, and ICLR, and features in the Financial Times, Nature News, Wired Magazine and MIT Technology Review. We conduct pre-deployment testing on behalf of frontier developers such as OpenAI, independent evaluations for governments including the EU AI Office, and publish the AI Security Leaderboard based on our red-testing expertise. We help steer and grow the AI safety field through developing research roadmaps with renowned researchers such as Yoshua Bengio; running FAR.Labs, an AI-focused co-working space in Berkeley housing 40+ members; and supporting the community through targeted grants to technical researchers.
FAR.AI is hiring a Senior Media Strategist to own our earned media: how our research and the people behind it show up in the press, on podcasts and in the newsletters that shape how AI risk is understood. You will decide which findings are news and how to position them, build and maintain relationships with the reporters who cover AI and AI policy, prepare researchers to be effective spokespeople, and manage the judgment calls that come with publishing work that finds failures in frontier models. You will report to Lauren Reid on the Communications team.
FAR.AI publishes research on how frontier AI systems fail and how to make them safer. That work matters only if the people who can act on it see it and trust it. Key to this is obtaining coverage that shapes what policymakers, funders and the public believe about AI risk. The AI beat is small, technically fluent, and tired of hype. We want a senior person who already knows AI journalism, has a view on how AI risk is being covered, and can make fast and informed judgment calls. This role gives our earned media a dedicated owner for the first time.
You will be a full-time employee of FAR.AI, a 501(c)(3) research non-profit.
Compensation Range: $170K - $190K
