Job summary

ICON is seeking a Senior Strategic R&D Mechatronics Engineer I to lead the design, development, integration, and validation of advanced mechatronic systems supporting next-generation product innovation.

The role requires hands-on prototyping, systems thinking, and collaboration across engineering, product management, manufacturing, and external partners to deliver innovative electromechanical solutions from concept through commercialization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering or related field; equivalent hands-on exp may be considered.
• 7+ years of experience in mechatronics, robotics, automation, or electromechanical systems.
• Strong understanding of integrated mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
• Experience with CAD software, system modeling, simulation, and rapid prototyping tools.
• Proficiency in embedded systems, sensors, actuators, motor controls, and industrial communication protocols.
• Experience with Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.

Responsibilities

• Lead research, architecture, design, and development of advanced mechatronic systems.
• Drive strategic R&D initiatives aligned with roadmaps and objectives.
• Develop and integrate mechanical components, embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and motion control.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, and partners.
• Conduct feasibility studies, proof-of-concept development, risk analysis, and validation testing.
• Create system-level requirements, specifications, design documentation, and test protocols.
• Support prototype builds, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and optimization.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance product performance.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to standards and culture.
• Participate in strategic planning and IP development.
