Job summary

Octavian Robotics is building a VLA-powered gripping system for surgical instruments and transitioning it from bench to hospital deployment. You will lead end-to-end design and integration of the 6DOF arm with vision, force, and tactile sensing.

The Cognizant Engineer will own the cradle-to-grave system, drive end-effector design, and implement real-time control with learned policies, while collaborating with founders in Van Nuys/Los Angeles area.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical/Mechatronics/Robotics.
• Hands-on robotics delivery experience on an R&D team.
• Experience with end-effector or gripper design and grasping.

Responsibilities

• Own the VLA gripping and manipulation system cradle to grave from concept to deployment.
• Design the gripper and mechatronics including end-effector, actuation, GD&T, mass and manufacturability tradeoffs.
• Integrate perception, sensing, and the 6DOF arm into the manipulation loop.
• Operationalize learned policies and close the sim-to-real loop on real hardware.
