Job summary

ICON is seeking a Senior Strategic R&D Mechatronics Engineer I to lead the design, development, integration, and validation of advanced mechatronic systems for next‑generation products. The role blends mechanical, electrical, controls and software expertise to deliver high‑impact solutions from concept to commercialization.

The ideal candidate combines hands‑on prototyping, systems thinking, and collaboration across engineering, product management, manufacturing and quality to drive innovation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics or related field.
• 7+ years in mechatronics, robotics, automation, or similar electromechanical development.
• Strong grasp of integrated mechanical, electrical and control systems.
• Experience with CAD, modeling, simulation and rapid prototyping.
• Embedded systems, sensors, actuators, motor controls, and industrial protocols.
• Proficient in Python, C/C++, MATLAB or LabVIEW; strong problem solving and communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead research, architecture, design and development of advanced mechatronic systems.
• Drive strategic R&D initiatives aligned with tech roadmaps and business goals.
• Develop and integrate mechanical components, embedded systems and sensors.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, manufacturing and quality teams.
• Conduct feasibility studies, PoC development, risk analysis, validation testing.
• Create system-level requirements, specs, design docs and test protocols.
• Support prototype builds, troubleshooting and optimization.
• Evaluate new technologies and methodologies for differentiation.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
• Participate in IP development and leadership briefings.
