Job summary

Hydrogen Group seeks a Senior Owner's Engineer to provide technical leadership for gas turbine power generation projects from development through EPC execution, commissioning, and long-term asset optimization.

This owner-side role requires deep expertise in open-cycle/simple-cycle gas turbines, balance-of-plant systems, equipment integration, EPC execution, and OEM management across complex projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in gas turbine power generation, EPC execution, OEM engineering, or owner/operator settings.
• Strong knowledge of open-cycle gas turbines and balance-of-plant systems.
• Experience reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, and performance calculations.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and SME for gas turbine projects.

• Ensure designs meet reliability, availability, maintainability, and economics goals.

• Lead design reviews, feasibility studies, and technology assessments.

Key Responsibilities

Owner's Engineering & Technical Leadership

• Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for gas turbine generation projects.
• Provide owner-side oversight of gas turbines and major auxiliary systems, including fuel gas, lubrication, hydraulics, inlet air, exhaust, cooling, emissions controls, fire protection, and black-start systems.
• Ensure equipment and plant designs support long-term reliability, availability, maintainability, and operating economics.
• Manage technical interfaces between the owner, EPC contractor, OEMs, equipment suppliers, and other project stakeholders.

Engineering & Project Development

• Establish technical requirements, equipment specifications, performance requirements, and project boundary conditions.
• Lead conceptual design, feasibility studies, technology evaluations, and project development activities.
• Review and validate engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, specifications, heat and mass balances, and performance calculations.
• Support selection and evaluation of simple-cycle, combined-cycle, CHP, and emerging power-generation configurations.

Technology & Efficiency

• Evaluate technologies that improve plant efficiency, flexibility, output, and emissions performance.
• Support assessments involving inlet air chilling, turbine power augmentation, thermal storage, intercooling, ORC, and other advanced technologies.
• Lead technical evaluations of emissions-control technologies including SCR and CO/oxidation catalysts.
• Support decarbonization initiatives, including carbon capture readiness and hydrogen blending.
• Provide technical input into CAPEX, OPEX, lifecycle economics, and business-case development.

OEM, Procurement & EPC Management

• Develop technical specifications, RFQs, bid requirements, and performance guarantees for major equipment and EPC contracts.
• Lead technical evaluations of OEM and EPC proposals.
• Manage technical deviations, change orders, warranties, and long-term service agreement interfaces.
• Provide owner-side oversight throughout engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning.

Risk, Compliance & Permitting

• Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, and other formal project risk reviews.
• Identify and mitigate technical, operational, safety, and reliability risks.
• Support air permitting, emissions modeling, and environmental compliance activities.
• Ensure projects meet applicable EPA, state/local, environmental, safety, and industry requirements.

Commissioning & Operations

• Participate in FATs, SATs, startup, commissioning, and performance testing.
• Lead resolution of technical issues involving OEMs, EPC contractors, and equipment suppliers.
• Provide ongoing engineering support to operating assets, including troubleshooting, outage planning, performance optimization, upgrades, and reliability improvements.
• Evaluate retrofit and modernization opportunities to improve efficiency, emissions performance, and long-term asset value.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in gas turbine power generation, power project development, EPC execution, OEM engineering, or owner/operator environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of open-cycle/simple-cycle gas turbines and balance-of-plant systems.
• Experience with gas turbine auxiliaries, equipment integration, and mechanical/piping systems.
• Experience reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, datasheets, and thermal/performance documentation.
• Experience with OEM and EPC contractor management.
• Knowledge of emissions-control systems and air permitting requirements.
• Experience supporting project development, procurement, commissioning, or plant operations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working for an IPP, power developer, utility, or owner/operator organization.
• Simple-cycle and/or combined-cycle project execution experience.
• Experience with HRSG/steam-cycle integration.
• Gas turbine OEM experience with companies such as GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, Mitsubishi Power, Ansaldo, or similar.
• Experience with air permitting and emissions compliance.
• Knowledge of hydrogen blending, carbon capture, power augmentation, or other decarbonization technologies.
• Field commissioning, startup, and performance testing experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
