Job summary

Bowman seeks a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Boston, MA team. You will lead the mechanical design, prepare engineering packages, and support construction administration for mission critical projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and ensure designs meet code and client requirements through construction. A PE license is preferred, with extensive experience in industrial/government projects. Bowman offers strong compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry-related experience in design of industrial, Mission Critical, commercial, government, academic, R&D, and similar projects.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and fire protection systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, REVIT, Carrier HAP; CFD knowledge in Cadence Reality DC (6Sigma) preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred.

  • Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
  • Create reports such as basis of designs, narrative, field observations, and construction documentation.
  • Oversee designs through project construction and completion.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical and architectural disciplines to ensure high quality, comprehensive designs.
  • Mentor and review work of Design Engineers and junior Project Engineers.
  • Represent project team in client communications and resolutions.

Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer role requires a proactive and ambitious engineer with strong foundational engineering skills and the capacity to learn new skills and solve problems. The mechanical engineer will be responsible for performing engineering design calculations and preparing engineering design documentation for client projects which will be constructed from the engineering package. The mechanical engineer will also be responsible for providing construction administration and review through project completion. The team for this position listing focuses on mission critical design and construction, and past experience in these facilities is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities
Leadership and Direction
  • Receive broad guidance relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and broad parameters for execution. Receive direction on highly complex assignments. Independently apply extensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
At the Operational and Company Level
  • Actively market the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients.
  • Frequent collaboration with the other engineering and design disciplines (civil, structural, electrical, and architectural to ensure a high quality, comprehensive design is prepared
  • Serve as mentor, resource, and trainer for Design Engineers and less experienced Project Engineers.
  • Represent project team in client communications and resolutions.
Do the Work
  • Design complex mechanical systems in accordance with current code requirements and sound engineering principles.
  • Design, specify, and layout mechanical systems as applicable to the project type (including ductwork, piping equipment, schedules, notes, etc.) according to company drafting standards.
  • Create reports such as basis of designs, written narratives, field observations, letters to AHJ's, etc.
  • Responsible for more complex tasks and/or designs within project assignments.
  • Resolves complex design issues with clients.
  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Oversee designs through project construction/completion.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
  • Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions and report on construction progress.
  • Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
  • Define and determine project specifications, performance criteria, and budget construction cost estimating.
  • Address comments from clients, AHJ's & other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly.
  • Review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, change order proposals), as needed.
  • Work within established project budgets.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Delegate and review tasks to more junior team members
