Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico seeks a Mechanical Measurements Trades professional for precise calibrations in engineering and research settings. You will perform a range of measurements, operate high-end equipment, and generate technical reports onsite, contributing to quality and innovation.

Required 5–8 years of experience or an approved apprenticeship, plus proficiency with CAD/CAM and CMMs.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5–8 years as a fully qualified Mechanical Measurements Tradesperson or completion of a state-approved apprenticeship program.
• Documented experience calibrating M&E and secondary reference standards.
• Experience developing calibration procedures and performing uncertainty analysis.
• Proficiency with precision measurement equipment, machine-tool alignments, torque wrench calibrations, and length/mass/force calibrations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, perform, and analyze mechanical measurements in engineering, research and development, and complex production environments.
• Operate CMMs, optical and video measuring centers, and surface texture analyzers.
• Use CAD/CAM software to generate profile definitions and perform set-ups using open-set techniques.
• Prepare standard and special measurement reports and maintain records in computerized databases.
• Provide technical oversight for shop, sub‑shop, and out‑of‑shop fabricate‑to‑print work.
• Confer on interpretation of measurement standards, write cost estimates, reports, and work instructions.
• Lead work assignments, schedule commitments, and training of coworkers as required.
• Execute work following industry‑standard safety practices.
• All work will be performed onsite.
