Job summary

PCI Pharma Services is seeking a senior maintenance leader to direct mechanical maintenance across 24/7 pharmaceutical operations. You will manage mechanical managers and reliability supervisors, drive standard work, and ensure safety and GMP compliance.

You will own preventive and predictive maintenance programs, lead RCA actions, monitor KPIs, and collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain to meet manufacturing objectives while controlling labor costs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years leading maintenance teams in a unionized manufacturing facility.
  • Pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, or advanced manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 shift operations.
  • CMMS experience (SAP or equivalent).

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and coordinate mechanical maintenance activities across all shifts.
  • Directly manage mechanical managers and reliability supervisors and ensure clear communication, accountability, and performance alignment across the workforce.
  • Ensure proper staffing, coverage, and skill distribution to meet production and maintenance requirements.
  • Establish standardized shift handoff processes to ensure continuity and visibility of work.
  • Lead maintenance operations within a unionized workforce environment, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
  • Serve as primary liaison between management and union representatives for maintenance-related matters.
  • Address grievances, disciplinary actions, and workforce concerns in alignment with HR and labor agreements.
  • Promote a culture of fairness, accountability, and engagement while maintaining operational standards.
  • Collaborate with HR on workforce planning, contract interpretation, and negotiations support.
  • Monitor overtime, scheduling efficiency, and labor utilization.
  • Own and continuously improve the Preventive and Predictive Maintenance programs.
  • Implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices to maximize equipment uptime and asset life.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action processes for equipment failures.
  • Develop and track key metrics such as:
    • MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure)
    • MTTR (Mean Time to Repair)
    • Equipment uptime and downtime trends
    • Ensure optimal stocking levels to support uptime while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Partner with procurement to manage vendor relationships, lead times, and cost control.
  • Implement systems for:
    • Critical spare identification
    • Inventory accuracy and cycle counts
    • Obsolescence reduction
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies to maintenance processes.
  • Lead initiatives focused on:
    • Reduced downtime
    • Improved changeovers
    • Increased labor productivity
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and Supply Chain to meet operational objectives.
  • Support installation and startup of new equipment and capital projects.
  • Ensure proper training, documentation, and integration into maintenance systems.
  • Develop visual management systems and standard work practices.
  • Manage department budget, including labor, parts, and capital expenditures.
  • Develop and track KPIs related to maintenance performance and cost.
  • Identify and deliver cost‑saving initiatives without compromising reliability or safety.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and company standards.
  • Promote safe work practices across all shifts and teams.

Oversight of a multi‑shift maintenance organization supporting 24/7 operations. Responsible for employee performance management, workforce planning, development, and succession planning.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years leading maintenance teams in a unionized manufacturing facility.
  • Pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, or advanced manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 shift operations.
Language Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of workforce including internal and external customers.
Mathematical Skills:
  • Good math and computer skills
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, manufacturing equipment, and maintenance best practices.
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and GMP requirements.
  • Experience supporting:
    • Advanced drug delivery systems
    • Bottle and vial processing equipment
    • Sterilization technologies
    • High‑speed packaging systems
    • Automated production equipment
  • Strong reliability engineering and asset management expertise.
  • Experience with CMMS systems (SAP or equivalent).
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and labor relations skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and drive organizational change.
