Job summary

TotalEnergies Petrochemicals & Refining USA, Inc. seeks a Senior Mechanical Inspector based at the Port Arthur Platform in Texas.

You will plan and perform inspections on piping and fixed equipment to assure integrity and safe operations, coordinating with operations and maintenance to address deficiencies. The role requires extensive inspection experience in petrochemical/refining facilities, API 510/570 certifications, and proficiency in non-destructive testing methods.

Qualifications

• API 510 certification is required.
• API 570 certification and AWS CWI preferred.
• Strong knowledge of ASME, API, AWS, ASNT, and TEMA standards.
• Experience with non-destructive testing methods UT, PT, MT, RT.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and standards.
• Experience in petrochemical or refining facilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct inspections of operating piping systems and equipment to monitor integrity and extend life.
• Coordinate inspection activities related to maintenance and new construction to ensure compliance with specs and codes.
• Develop, write, and maintain equipment files and corrosion/history data to support reliability programs.
• Review drawings, weld procedures, and construction practices for compliance with company standards.
• Provide inspection support to ensure regulatory compliance and safety.
• Oversee outside shop surveillance of new equipment construction and repairs.
• Participate in Availability Improvement Team to improve equipment availability and optimize operations.

Join our dynamic US Refining & Chemicals Inspection Team as a Senior Mechanical Inspector at our Port Arthur Platform within TotalEnergies Petrochemicals & Refining USA! What does joining the Inspection team look like? It’s about working with a team to ensure all mechanical inspections on fixed equipment and piping are performed and analyzed routinely to ensure the safe operations of the Platform. What does it take to be a Senior Mechanical Inspector? It is about knowing and understanding inspection techniques and industry regulations and standards. It is about being curious to find the root cause of corrosion and other inspection issues that might be found. It is about following up on inspection results with operations and maintenance to ensure all deficiencies and anomalies are addressed to ensure the ongoing safe operations of the Platform.

• Plan and conduct inspections of operating piping systems and equipment to monitor its integrity, predict failures, prevent unscheduled shutdowns, and extend equipment life.
• Coordinate and/or perform inspection activities relating to routine maintenance a new construction to assure the completed product complies with engineering drawings specifications, nationally recognized industry codes, and good construction practices.
• Develop, write, and maintain equipment files and computer programs which contain design data and drawings, documentation of work performed, repair history, corrosion history, and thickness trends, to comply with regulatory laws and industry practice and aid in determining mechanical integrity and ensuring reliability.
• Provide technical support to engineering by reviewing drawings, weld procedures, and construction practices to assure they comply with company engineering specifications and national fabrication codes.
• Provide inspection support to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws by establishing records, conducting inspections, and assisting audits by regulatory agencies such as Texas Railroad Commission, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, Texas Natural Resources Conservation Commission, United States Coast Guard, EPA, and OSHA.
• Provide outside shop vender surveillance of new equipment construction and repair of damaged equipment to ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
• Participate in Availability Improvement Team to achieve targets as set forth by Refinery. This includes assisting in casual analyses, establishing availability critical equipment, and monitoring operating windows.

Candidate Profile

• High School Diploma / Some College preferred.
• This position is for a Senior Mechanical Inspector (10+ years) documented inspection experience in a petrochemical or refining facility.
• American Petroleum Institute 510 certification required.
• American Petroleum Institute 570 certification and American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of the National Codes and Standards (ASME, API, AWS, ASNT, TEMA). Have experience with non-destructive examination techniques (UT, PT, MT, and RT) with some construction background preferred.
• Ability to understand and interpret engineering standards and drawings.
• Efficiently manage multiple projects, contract personnel, and priorities simultaneously.
• Good oral, written, communication, interpersonal, and troubleshooting skills, computer skills.
• Familiar with Plant Condition Management System software.
• Level II RT Radiographic Film Interpretation Certification.
• Level II UT, PT, MT, VT, RT (TOTAL ASNT-TC-1A).
• The Inspector must be able to access extreme heights of up to 200 feet or work in confined spaces by entering openings of 18-24". Confined space entry is most hazardous. Inspectors may be required to provide support to other Total facilities worldwide.
• This position is on call 24 hours a day. Hours for scheduled or unscheduled overtime are not compensated.
