Job summary

Applied Technical Services, LLC (ATS) is a leading provider of testing, inspection, certification and compliance services. The Mechanical Engineer role located in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, NC requires a minimum of 5 years of hands-on FEA experience using SolidWorks Simulation to support design, analysis, testing and validation of mechanical systems.

You will develop 3D models, perform simulations, interpret results and make engineering recommendations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on FEA experience using SolidWorks Simulation.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Strong understanding of linear and nonlinear static analysis, fatigue, thermal, modal and vibration analyses.

Responsibilities

• Develop and analyze 3D models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Perform detailed FEA simulations using SolidWorks Simulation to evaluate structural integrity, stress distribution, deflection, fatigue life, and thermal performance.
• Validate analytical models through testing, calculations, and engineering judgment.
• Support product development from concept through manufacturing and field implementation.
• Generate engineering reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, results, and recommendations.
• Review designs for compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with design engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel to resolve technical challenges.
• Conduct root cause analysis of mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist in material selection, weld evaluations, and design optimization efforts.
• Support prototype testing, inspection activities, and design verification programs.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical guidance to project teams.
