Job summary

BlackRock Resources, LLC is seeking a Senior Estimator for mechanical construction in Newport News, VA. This office-based role leads the estimating process for plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and industrial systems, coordinating with owners, engineers, and GCs from preconstruction through handoff to operations.

The candidate will own detailed cost estimates, bids, and project budgets, while monitoring market trends and ensuring competitive positioning.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical estimating or related experience.
• Strong background in plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and industrial systems (MEP).
• Proficiency in estimating software — AutoBid preferred — and strong Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead estimating efforts for mechanical construction projects — plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and industrial systems.
• Develop detailed cost estimates, bid proposals, and project budgets under tight deadlines.
• Review and validate labor, materials, and production rates across multiple bids.
• Monitor market trends and material/labor pricing to maintain competitive positioning.
• Collaborate with owners, engineers, GCs, and internal teams to resolve scope and technical questions.
• Support preconstruction and participate in handoff to operations.

The Role

A senior-level estimating leadership role focused on mechanical construction projects — plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and related systems. You'll own the full estimating process across multiple complex bids while collaborating closely with owners, engineers, and GCs from preconstruction through project handoff.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead estimating efforts for mechanical construction projects — plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and industrial systems
• Develop detailed cost estimates, bid proposals, and project budgets under tight deadlines
• Review and validate labor, materials, and production rates across multiple simultaneous bids
• Monitor market trends and material/labor pricing to maintain competitive positioning
• Collaborate with owners, engineers, GCs, and internal teams to resolve scope and technical questions
• Support preconstruction and participate in handoff to operations

What We Need

• 5+ years of mechanical estimating or related experience — required
• Strong background in plumbing, HVAC, ductwork, and industrial systems (MEP)
• Proficiency in estimating software — AutoBid preferred — and strong Excel skills
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documents
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or equivalent experience preferred
• Leadership experience mentoring junior estimators a plus
