Meet the Team

We are the Service Provider (SP) Mechanical and Thermal team responsible for designing Cisco's high-performance, provider-class routers, the Cisco 8000 series. This series utilizes Cisco's Silicon One ASIC, delivering unmatched performance, density, and feature-rich functionality.

We are transforming the industry by building a new internet for AI networks and the 5G era, providing a unified, programmable silicon architecture that underpins all Cisco's future routing products.

Our devices are designed for adaptability across service providers and web-scale markets, suitable for fixed and modular platforms. They deliver high speed without sacrificing programmability, buffering, power efficiency, scale, or feature flexibility.

You will be part of our team driving next-generation network devices built with Cisco Silicon One.

Your Impact

In this role, you will work in the platform engineering mechanical team in San Jose, CA, focusing on current and next-generation mechanical designs of telecom systems. You will join a dedicated, dynamic team that values open communication, empowerment, innovation, teamwork, and customer success.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and expertise in mechanical testing at the part or system level.
  • Lead and mentor engineers, offering technical guidance for complex projects/issues.
  • Design and deliver system mechanical designs per product requirements.
  • Demonstrate originality and innovation in defining product and project architecture.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to meet project goals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Engineering with 12 or 8+ years of industry experience, respectively.
  • Expertise in 3D MCAD tools (Creo/Siemens NX preferred).
  • Extensive sheet metal enclosure design experience (fixed or modular chassis).
  • Proficiency in GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with sheet metal manufacturing (soft and hard tooling).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in mechanical design of data center network equipment.
  • Knowledge of plastic and die-casting design and tooling.
  • Broad understanding of PCB layout, EMI, safety, and thermal design fields.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis tools like PTC Creo Simulate or Ansys.
  • Thermal system design experience, including heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers, chillers, and thermoelectric plates.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with management, team members, and vendors.
