Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering to lead the ARC vacuum vessel design and delivery. You will oversee the full design lifecycle, coordinate with allied systems, and manage risks with novel materials in a fast-paced fusion environment.

You will guide a multi-disciplinary ME team, interact with supply chain and fabrication partners, and drive on-time, on-budget execution for a mission-critical component.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in mechanical engineering or related roles.
• Experience on multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
• Design and delivery of large metallic structures.
• Experience with structural analysis and fabrication.
• Experience in dynamic R&D environments with novel materials.
• Broad engineering knowledge for cross-team collaboration.
• Knowledge of finite element analysis for structures.
• Knowledge of fluid cooling in mechanical systems.
• Able to adapt to rapid changes in environment.
• Experience designing systems operating at high temperature (600C/1100F).
• Willing to travel nights/weekends/on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of mechanical engineers for ARC vacuum vessel and related systems.
• Oversee design lifecycle from concept CAD to procurement and assembly.
• Coordinate vacuum vessel with ARC plant systems and other teams.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership for complex, multi-disciplinary challenges.
• Engage supply chain and materials teams to source suppliers.
• Manage project schedule and budget for critical component delivery.
• Oversee talent management, hiring, and performance expectations.
• Foster resilience and grit to overcome technical hurdles.
