Job summary

Hexium is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to translate decades of AVLIS research into modern, manufacturable hardware. Initially on-site at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA, you will reconstruct legacy designs as 3D CAD assemblies and collaborate with national laboratory scientists to resolve engineering gaps.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience, including vacuum system design and/or precision mechanical hardware.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools and working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
• Experience collaborating with national laboratories or regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Review legacy AVLIS designs and records at a DOE national laboratory under controlled handling procedures.
• Own mechanical design of chamber and vacuum systems and all interfaces.
• Apply vacuum design principles to materials compatibility, outgassing mitigation, and contamination control.
• Convert legacy designs into modern 3D CAD assemblies and validate with thermal/structural simulations.
• Collaborate with national lab scientists to close technical design gaps and inform the modernized design.
• Coordinate with Hexium Integration Team on prototype procurement and testing requirements.
