Job summary

Teledyne FLIR Defense seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design of ruggedized integrated systems for defense applications from concept to delivery. Location is Elkridge, MD, with a compensation range of $108,400 to $144,500 per year.

You will model and analyze complex mechanical assemblies, develop 3D CAD drawings in SolidWorks, apply DFM/DFA, and perform hand calculations and FEA while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing and customer teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
• 7–10 years mechanical engineering experience, preferably in defense, ruggedized systems.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks; familiarity with ASME Y14.5 and ASME Y14.100 standards.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze mechanical systems including moving assemblies (e.g., masts, booms, support structures).
• Develop 3D CAD models and fabrication drawings using SolidWorks per ASME standards.
• Apply DFM/DFA principles to optimize manufacturability and reliability.
• Conduct hand calculations and FEA to validate mechanical performance.
• Lead design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Education
