Job summary

Intuitive Surgical in Sunnyvale, CA, seeks a hands-on Senior Mechanical Engineer to own robotic accessory development in the Future Forward group. You’ll design, test, and document components, working with software, electrical, clinical, and manufacturing teams to resolve challenging problems early in product development.

The role requires a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering and about 8 years of medical device or robotics experience, CAD skills (SolidWorks), and DFx.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent work experience
• Typical minimum 8 years of relevant experience (Medical device and/or robotics preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional R&D teams
• Proficiency using CAD (SolidWorks preferred)
• Design for manufacturing and assembly (DFx)
• Experience with design standards (FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, IEC 60601)
• Familiar with GD&T and ASME/ISO drafting standards
• Familiar with product lifecycle stages including design verification/validation
• Familiar with PLM documentation control systems

Responsibilities

• Use first principles to design and document robotic surgical accessory components and assemblies
• Own building, testing, and understanding your designs
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines on the design of robotic surgical accessories and related systems
• Contribute to planning, owning milestones and team goals
• Contribute to risk assessments, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks
• Mentor mechanical engineers to achieve high-quality implementations
• Create and maintain SolidWorks CAD databases and drawings
• Observe clinical cases and inform designs with clinical input
• Support pre-clinical and clinical labs and documentation
