Job summary

Sila Nanotechnologies in Alameda is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to lead the design of manufacturing-scale reactors for Silicon Carbon anode production. The role bridges R&D concepts and capital projects, focusing on equipment development and lifecycle design.

You will drive manufacturability, operability, reliability, and safety considerations, working across teams to deploy multiple reactor systems that meet business objectives and scale to mass production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience in industrial equipment environments.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, AutoCAD and P&IDs.
• Strong background in reactor systems, thermal/fluid equipment, and high-temperature design.
• Analytical proficiency in FEA, thermal modeling, and precision tolerancing.
• Working knowledge of mechanical codes, industrial regulations, and PSM environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead design initiatives for manufacturing-scale reactors with safety-by-design principles.
• Provide technical oversight with high-fidelity modeling (FEA, thermal) to validate reactor performance.
• Develop detailed engineering packages (layouts, IP drawings, data sheets, specifications).
• Drive safety and compliance and support PSM programs and Mechanical Integrity initiatives.
• Lead cross-functional project teams and manage end-to-end lifecycle (vendor coordination, FAT, installation).
• Maintain controlled engineering documentation throughout projects.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers on design rigor and best practices.
