Job summary

Zap Energy seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive the mechanical design of high-voltage pulsed power systems from concept through fabrication and integration. You will collaborate with electrical, plasma, and systems engineers to deliver hardware at the edge of what’s physically possible.

The role requires a bachelor’s in engineering, 7+ years of hands-on experience, strong SolidWorks and GD&T proficiency, and experience across fabrication processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 7+ years mechanical engineering experience with hands-on track record.
• Strong SolidWorks proficiency in parts, assemblies, drawings, and PDM.
• Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) is essential.

Responsibilities

• Design pulsed power systems, enclosures, structural components, bus work, pneumatics, and tooling.
• Translate design requirements into mechanical hardware meeting functional and safety constraints.
• Produce SolidWorks drawings with GD&T callouts for manufacturability.
• Iterate designs using redlines from manufacturing and operations.
• Own material selection, fastener torque specs, and tolerance stack-ups.
• Apply DFM and DFA to enable rapid in-house builds.
• Present designs concisely for design reviews and provide feedback to peers.
• Perform formal drawing release redlines as part of the release process.
• Collaborate across electrical, controls, manufacturing, and systems teams to resolve interfaces.
• Mentor junior engineers on the team.
