Job summary

Zap Energy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to advance the mechanical design of high-voltage pulsed power systems from concept through fabrication. You will collaborate with electrical, plasma, and systems engineers to develop hardware at the edge of physical possibilities.

The role requires hands-on design expertise, proficiency in SolidWorks and GD&T, and the ability to work across disciplines to meet schedules and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience
• Strong SolidWorks proficiency
• Experience in high-voltage/pulsed power is a plus
• Ability to take designs from concept to fabrication quickly
• Experience with Jira for task management

Responsibilities

• Design pulsed power systems, enclosures, structural components, bus work and tooling
• Translate requirements into mechanical hardware meeting constraints
• Produce SolidWorks parts, assemblies, drawings with GD&T
• Iterate designs based on redlines from manufacturing/ops
• Own material selection, torque specs and tolerances
• Apply DFM/DFA to meet schedules for in-house builds
• Present designs concisely for design reviews
• Provide technical feedback to other engineers
• Perform formal drawing redlines during release
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines to resolve interfaces
• Mentor junior engineers on the team
