Job summary
Astrolab, located in Hawthorne, CA, seeks a Senior or Staff Mechanical Engineer to design planetary rovers and related hardware. You will own hardware from requirements through mission success, delivering high-performance designs for challenging environments and mentoring junior engineers.
You will craft detailed design documents, build tooling to boost team efficiency, and collaborate with leadership to establish best practices for design, analysis, and testing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in STEM
- 4+ years of design experience at a space company
- Experience with CAD modeling and analytical tools (FEA, MATLAB, etc.)
- Experience developing hardware to meet space industry design standards and best practices
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical systems (structures, mechanisms, electro-mechanical, thermal, etc.) at architectural and detailed levels
- Own hardware products through full life cycle from requirements to mission success
- Produce detailed design documentation including models, drawings, analysis packages, test plans and reports
- Build tools and infrastructure to improve team efficiency
- Define Astrolab best practices for design, analysis, and test
