The Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Advanced HVACR Solutions plays a pivotal role in driving innovation, efficiency, and project success at êffecterra. This position combines technical expertise, leadership, and technical project oversight to deliver solutions that drive positive climate impact. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer mentors team members, guides technical development, and ensures seamless project execution by collaborating across disciplines to deliver on client expectations.

Core Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on HVACR systems, guiding the design, development, and analysis of advanced thermal, thermodynamic, and mechanical systems.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering teams, fostering growth and ensuring quality in deliverables.
  • Lead technical reviews to ensure projects meet technical objectives. Maintain Technical Quality assurance of our engineering work and deliverables.

Technical Project Oversight

  • Oversee technical project execution, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and scopes, while supporting cross-functional collaboration.
  • Support the development of project plans, including technical resource allocation, risk mitigation strategies, and KPIs to measure success.
  • Act as a primary technical liaison with clients, addressing concerns and translating objectives into actionable plans.
  • Assist in business development efforts by providing insights into project feasibility, scoping, and resource requirements.

Innovation and Development

  • Research and develop cutting-edge HVACR technologies, including advanced CO2 (R744) refrigerant systems.
  • Support the development of internal tools, processes, and methodologies for improved project efficiency and client satisfaction.
  • Identify and implement best practices for verification, validation, and energy modeling of systems.
  • Plan and adapt with business growth and strategy, cross-training where necessary to solve new challenges and innovate.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Foster effective communication among internal teams, external vendors, and clients to ensure alignment on project goals.
  • Represent the organization in technical discussions, presentations, and business development activities.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and organizational growth by providing insights on emerging industry trends and opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in HVACR design and analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing engineering deliverables and coordinating cross-functional projects
  • Experience in Research & Development (R&D), technology development, and product development process & methodologies
  • Strong proficiency in HVACR systems, including design, thermal and structural analysis, component selection, and energy modeling.
  • Proficient in the use of analytical and simulation tools such as:

SolidWorks/AutoCAD for mechanical design and CAD modeling

ANSYS or COMSOL Multiphysics for thermal and structural finite element analysis (FEA)

EES (Engineering Equation Solver) or Mathcad for thermodynamic calculations

TRNSYS, EnergyPlus, or Modelica for system-level energy modeling and dynamic simulation

CoolProp or REFPROP for refrigerant property analysis and cycle modeling

MATLAB/Simulink or Python for custom analysis, automation, and algorithm development

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong professional presence with a track record of client engagement and stakeholder management.
  • Excellent time management skills, including ability to work autonomously, with minimal direction in a fully remote setting, anticipating needs and planning accordingly, taking initiative to organize and prioritize responsibilities and tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent skills in typical office applications, such as email, calendaring, virtual meeting platforms, standard business documentation and analytical work using spreadsheet applications such as Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Read, write, and speak fluently in English
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical and project challenges effectively.

Up to 20% travel may be required to support client projects or on-site assessments.

The employee is regularly required to move about freely in typical office settings.
