Job summary

EP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of HVAC and plumbing systems for diverse building projects in the Brookings area. You will guide project teams, ensure code-compliant solutions, and collaborate with clients and partners.

You will break down complex systems, provide technical direction, mentor junior staff, and manage documentation, RFIs, and construction administration to support timely project delivery.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
• Minimum of 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design, preferably within an MEP consulting or A/E firm.
• Located in or within 60 miles of Brookings, South Dakota.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts for HVAC and plumbing systems across projects of varying size and complexity.
• Develop code-compliant designs that meet performance, constructability, and energy efficiency goals.
• Oversee preparation of detailed drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Coordinate with architectural, structural, electrical, and other disciplines for integrated delivery.
• Conduct facility assessments and site verifications to support design decisions.
• Provide technical direction and QA/QC for mechanical design work.
• Break down complex systems into clear components to support learning and execution.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (ABET accredited)
